Beast is a South Korean music group composed of six members: Yoon Doo Joon, Jang Hyun Seung, Yong Jun Hyung, Yang Yo Seob, Lee Gi Kwang and Son Dong Woon. BEAST is the first male group released by Cube Entertainment. Their first mini album, BEAST is the B2st, was released on October 14th, 2009. In the same day, a showcase was exhibited on MTV.

biographyInitially, they were known as B2ST (Boys 2 Search For Top), but soon before their official debut, they changed their name to BEAST (Boys of EAst Standing Tall).
Cube Entertainment is a sub-company of JYP Entertainment and it is common for the members of both companies to have known each other for a while. Despite being new, the group already has some history due to practically all the members having been involved with other works in the entertainment industry for some time.
Lee Gi Kwang was initially a solo artist inside Cube, having started his career on April 4th, 2009, and was a JYPE trainee for four years. During some months, he promoted his single First Episode: A New Hero, including a presentation in Japan. He used a stage name of AJ (Ace Junior), which is still widely used as his nickname. In the sitcom "High Kick Through the Roof" from the MBC channel he interprets the character SeHo.
Some of the future BEAST members participated in his solo career as dancers and rappers, among them Yoon Doo Joon, the oldest member and leader of the group. A sports lover, he aspired to be a physical education teacher, but after watching the Big Bang documentary, he decided he wanted to be a singer. He participated in the program "Hot Blood" from the Mnet channel and was a candidate for One Day (made by the groups 2AM and 2PM from JYP Entertainment).
After he was eliminated from the program, he became a trainee in Cube Entertainment and participated as one of the rappers in the song Wipe the Tears by AJ with Yong Jun Hyung. Known previously as Poppin' Dragon, Jun Hyung was part of the rotating group Xing before entering BEAST. Partially responsible for the lyrics in the first mini album of the group, he also wrote his rap parts.
Jang Hyun Seung participated in the member selection documentary for the group Big Bang, but was eliminated in the final rounds. After that, he trained hard to improve as a singer and dancer with expressive capabilities on stage. Earlier, he was known by his stage name SO-1, but now he uses his real name. Part of his training was with Yang Yo Seob, who was from the M-boat company before joining Cube, totaling five years as a trainee. Schoolmate of Gi Kwang, he was also a dancer during his solo career, like AJ. He is considered the 'non official youngest member' due to his young appearance and irreverent personality, and one of his nicknames is actually "endorphins". The actual youngest member, another former trainee from JYP, Son Dong Woon, was the last member to enter the group. Because of his low toned voice and slightly introverted personality in front of the cameras, a lot of fans are surprised when they discover he is the youngest member instead of Yo Seob.
Before their debut, they participated in a documentary called "MTV B2ST" that showed each member's efforts and objectives. They gained success with the release of the Bad Girl music video and later presentations in music programs in TV and radio.
The mini album BEAST is the B2st has already surpassed 20,000 sold copies, twice what is already considered a success for a debuting group. In the end of 2009, they won the Rookie Music Award of December, a prize sponsored by the South Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry and organized by the Korean Creative Contents Agency.
They promoted the song Mystery after Bad Girl and recently recorded the track Crazy for the soundtrack from the movie "Attack of the Gas Station 2".
